The Chinese Juniper is a Nice Outdoor Bonsai
The Chinese Juniper, or the juniperus procumbens, is a very popular bonsai tree. It can be done in several different styles, and one of the most popular is the cascading look. This Juniper bonsai is also known as the green mound because of the way it looks. The Juniper is one of the most common bonsai, especially since it is fairly easy to train. This shrub is generally found in areas of high elevation, and it has a very nice shape and outline. It’s also easy to grow and is quite forgiving if you forget to give it the treatment it needs. As an outdoor bonsai, however, the Chinese Juniper won’t really thrive inside the home, and it should be left outdoors.
Because it is an outdoor bonsai, you may see some changes in your Chinese Juniper over the months. That’s to be expected. It may change color, drop some of its leaves, and will experience some new growth in the spring. Remember that it does need to be watered, even in humid climates, but don’t water it on a set basis. Instead, water it when the soil looks dry or the moisture level is down. Over-watering a bonsai can be just as bad, or worse, than not watering it at all!
