Rent or Lease – What’s the Best Plan for Your Wireless Internet Modem?
If you’re just signing up for wireless internet you probably need to get your hands on a wireless modem. While your laptop likely comes with wireless capabilities, in order to access the internet from your chosen provider you will need a modem from them. Typically there will be two choices: renting or leasing. Neither is always better than the other. It simply depends on what’s most important to you. The first thing to understand is that in most cases you will need to sign a 2 year contract if you lease your modem. If you purchase it, you won’t have any contract at all.
If you plan to use your wireless connection for many years to come, then it may make more sense to purchase it. Some wireless internet providers will give you a certain amount of days to try it out and if you’re not happy you can cancel with a full refund. On the other hand, if you’re not sure that wireless is right for you or you’re just looking for a temporary internet connection, then it may make more sense to lease. Again, you’ll pay every month for it and will likely have a 2 year minimum commitment.
