A Simple Middle Eastern Treat

To celebrate my husband’s Middle Eastern heritage, I’ve been trying to cook some dishes from this region. This week, I came across a falafel recipe. Falafels are balls or patties made from ground chickpeas. They are then seasoned and deep fried. I was a little nervous making these, since I’ve never cooked with chickpeas, but after all, they are considered the hot dog of the Middle East, so how hard could it be?

They turned out great and were actually easier to fry than I thought. I have no idea if they taste the way they are supposed to, but we like them and I guess that’s all that counts. I’m ready to give a few more bean recipes a try over the coming months. Maybe I’ll make some hummus next, since I’m doing well with chickpeas. Other than that lentil soup looks like a pretty easy, yet interesting dish to make. I remember one of my grand aunts making it when I was a child and I liked it enough to remember it into adulthood.
